A 150-year legacy, still building
Youngpreneur Square didn't start with a business plan. It started with a legacy.
St. George, South Carolina is a town of fewer than 2,000 people — the seat of Dorchester County, out where the old railroad still runs. The [family name] family's roots here reach back more than 150 years, to [the ancestors who were freed from slavery and built this community]. The church they founded began just up the road in Reevesville; its doors never closed — today it has merged with two neighboring congregations and still gathers in St. George.
Shakori Edwards came home to continue that work. She never finished college, and the only formal training she ever had in technology was a single high-school computer class in 2005 — everything after, she taught herself. She built every part of this by hand: the shop, the publication, the contests, the consulting, and now the Square.
That's what it is. Any business can lease a storefront here — and every lease helps fund one we donate to a young entrepreneur. It's how a 150-year legacy, from a town of 2,000, keeps building — one address at a time.
"I didn't leave to start over. I came home to keep building what my family started."Shakori Edwards · Founder
